Lead Story

Communauto brings FLEX one-way service to Pont-Viau

The City of Laval and Communauto have introduced the FLEX free-floating car-sharing service to the Pont-Viau sector, centring the rollout around Cartier metro station. The model enables drivers to pick up an available car without booking ahead and leave it at a destination within the authorized operating boundary, rather than returning it to its starting point.

Through the Communauto app, drivers locate an idle car, unlock it, and complete their journey. At the end of the trip, vehicles can be parked in designated spots across the wider FLEX territory, which includes serviced sectors in Montreal and Longueuil.

Situating the launch zone in Pont-Viau integrates one-way car-sharing into a high-density transit hub. Commuters can readily pair metro and bus connections with walking, cycling, fixed-station rentals, and on-demand vehicles.

“Over 2,500 Laval residents have already chosen to reduce their reliance on personal vehicles and adopt more sustainable transit habits through Communauto,” said Pont-Viau municipal councillor Christine Poirier.

In detail

Sainte-Rose hosts Mix Film Festival

As Île Jésus’s sole festival dedicated to cinematic arts, the Mix Film Festival Laval runs through October 27 at École Curé-Antoine-Labelle’s Salle Claude-Potvin in Sainte-Rose. The lineup comprises more than 40 short and feature-length films, complemented by discussions on self-distribution, anti-racism efforts in Laval, and women in cinema.

Festival programming includes a Saturday red-carpet event starting at 6 p.m., followed by opening ceremonies featuring Andres Livov’s film Les Blues du Bleuet. On Sunday, the “Bouquet Lavallois” panel will convene community voices to explore equal opportunity in creative industries.

Nuit de Terreur resurfaces in Fabreville cornfield

After a two-year absence, the major Quebec haunted walk-through Nuit de Terreur has returned with “La dernière récolte.” The attraction was put on pause after local company Escaparium faced flooding caused by Hurricane Debby.

Rebuilt in partnership with Ferme Marineau at 4356 Boulevard Dagenais Ouest in Fabreville, the experience runs through November 1 with departures scheduled every 15 minutes between 6:30 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Visitors can wander through an autumn-themed village before entering the 25,000-square-metre labyrinth.

Laval MNAs take on critic briefs in Liberal shadow cabinet

Quebec Liberal Party leader Charles Milliard has appointed his shadow cabinet, handing multiple responsibilities to three of Laval’s six elected members. Mille-Îles MNA Virginie Dufour returns as Environment critic alongside regional duties for the Laurentides.

Chomedey MNA Madeleine Féquière will serve as critic for the Treasury Board and international Francophonie, while Laval-des-Rapides MNA Caroline De Guire becomes regional critic for Laval as well as spokesperson for Science, research, and innovation.

Community Spotlight

The Her Circle of Care initiative, led by McGill University medical students, illustrates how healthcare access relies on relational trust. By providing longer clinical appointments in culturally safe surroundings, these future practitioners are ensuring Indigenous women remain central to their own care decisions.
